What we assess

Our 100-point assessment considers five areas, each worth up to 20 points:

  1. Quality and clarity of the writing.
  2. Structure, organization and pacing.
  3. Originality and development of ideas.
  4. Character, subject or thematic development, appropriate to the genre.
  5. Effectiveness for the intended readership.

Criteria are applied in the context of the genre and audience. A picture book is not judged as a novel, and nonfiction is considered on its own purpose and presentation.

Strict scoring standard

For new submissions from October 12, 2026, scores use increments of 0.1. Each of the five categories has four criteria worth up to 5.0 points each. The twenty criteria total 100.0 points.

  • Gold: total 90.0–100.0; every category at least 17.0/20.0; writing and structure each at least 18.0/20.0; every individual criterion at least 4.0/5.0.
  • Silver: total 80.0–89.9; every category at least 15.0/20.0; every individual criterion at least 3.0/5.0.
  • A score of 90.0 or above that misses a Gold minimum does not automatically become Silver. No award is issued unless all requirements for its band are met.

Each criterion requires manuscript evidence. Evidence across each category must cover the beginning, middle and ending. Incomplete or unreadable submissions and unresolved integrity concerns are held for human review rather than assigned an unsupported award.

Human editorial approval

AI assessments are provisional and private. Two independent reviewers read the complete manuscript and prepare scorecards. A third reader is required when total scores differ by more than 5.0 points, any category differs by 3.0 points or more, or readers disagree on an award band or required minimum. When a third reader is needed, the final score for each criterion is the median of the three scores. Scores of 95.0 or above also require a senior evidence audit.

The final editorial record explains score reconciliation and confirms eligibility and any resolved concerns before release. Authors receive their approved results privately before any optional public feature.

The same standard for every package

Every eligible review package includes one award assessment at no extra charge. Buying additional reviews does not give additional award entries, change the criteria or guarantee recognition. Final certificate decisions receive an editorial check.

We do not award certificates to books written by UNFOLDRA EDITORIAL's owners or members of their households. Material editorial conflicts must be disclosed and reassigned.

When will I hear?

Your award decision is communicated after the assessment is complete. If your book qualifies, the certificate is delivered digitally. We do not issue certificates in advance of assessment.
